Annual Members Summer Exhibition Spotlight💡

'Beauty Queen' by Mags Geaney is a magnetic black and white portrait. Like her broader series of portraits, this pieceexplores the recognition of gesture and the art of ‘giving face’. Mags’ working process extracts images with recognisably refined and practiced style poses from mass media streams. Through this practice, she is drawn to image-captured body signals that are heightened by performance and direction. She then subverts the visual language that these images are constructed through, renewing these found subjects through empathic connection, black humour, and rebellious play.
