They say pressure is for tyres so the organising group of members from Fermoy Rifle & Pistol Club must have felt like over-inflated juggernaut tyres with all the activities over the past few weeks and those yet to come in the run up to Christmas & 2026.

The club’s last Community Engagement Day of 2025 took part on Sunday 9th November with 81 visitors attending the Ballyhooly range throughout the day to view the facilities; this proved to be the most successful Community Day of the 5-month series held over the summer & autumn and this day alone saw 36 new members signing up to become part of the 33-year old club.

The club, now approaching membership capacity has suspended Community engagement days until the International Gallery Rifle Federation World Championship’s being held at the local club in July 2026 is over.

The club’s Annual General Meeting on Sunday 16th November saw the existing committee re-elected unopposed and following the AGM Fermoy club delegates travelled to meet with the National awarding body members and international representatives at the Maldron Hotel Portlaoise on Friday 21st November to cross every ‘T’ and dot every ‘I’ in advance of the upcoming World event.

The clubs highly successful ‘Santa’s Got a Gun’ competition was held for its 3rd year on Sunday 23rdNovember with a record number of participants raising fund for the club while at the same time raising €1290 for Marymount Hospice. The competition day began with breakfast at one of the clubs favourite venues, the Corbett Court Hotel.

The competition day ended with special awards to our current Vice Chairman Bill Connelley (Kilavullen), Current treasurer James Murphy (Castlelyons) and former Chairman Declan Declan Murphy (Michelstown) for decades of service to the club and their ongoing commitment to continue guiding the club into the future.

Again, this year our very generous corporate and club member sponsorship provided a record number of prizes ranging from €1200 in value down to €20 which meant it was only a few unlucky participants went home without a prize.

Next weekend will see members enjoy a relaxing shoot at the range before traveling to the club Christmas Dinner Party at the Park Hotel Dungarvan on Saturday 6th December.

A series of intensive firearm safely training days will take place at the clubs in-house Academy throughout December and into 2026 to ensure new members are fully qualified in safe firearm use before applying for a licence in their own right.

They say that New York is the city that never sleeps; sometimes I wonder if the composer didn’t have Fermoy Rifle & Pistol Club in mind!
