Thank you so much for your recent donation. Just to update you. We have raised over €1800. A business has donated €300 and the fantastic volunteers at Ashbourne Lion’s club have kindly donated €750. Total almost €3k. A further update from this worthy campaign is that the wonderful volunteers at Ashbourne Cardiac First Responders have now donated an additional AED which we will be able to put in Garden City. We need to purchase an additional box for this AED. Thank you everyone. This has been a fantastic campaign. Any further funds will be used to get signage.

monthly update, the November Ashbourne Municipal District meeting Tuesday 4th Nov.
I am delighted that I received unanimous support from my colleagues regarding my motion on allowing parking access to the St. Declan’s graveyard on the N2. It is hoped that a temporary arrangement will be put in place before additional work is carried out on site to allow the car park to be more readily available, especially over the weekend. I’ve asked for some detail on this for our December meeting which is open to the public at 10am on Tuesday December 2nd.
I’ve also sought updates on the following;
Curragha L10161 Swans to Tayto Snacks- additional road speed, no overtaking signs and line markings.
Hickey’s Lane - query about upgrade of road including long overdue footpath. Council has collected substantial planning fees on this road in the past decade. I want a small part of this to be spent on a footpath, signage and public lighting.
Ballybin road - chevron signs have all been destroyed by several road traffic incidents. These need to be replace and additional road safety measures put in place.
An appeal for the transport department to carry out an audit on the terrible sequencing on traffic lights town wide.
After a query, I raised on money spent on our festival grant. I was delighted with the news that we have €5k to spend on Christmas lights 🎄, the High St. management have agreed to match this and we hope to purchase some new lights and build on this each year.
The lighting our community tree 🌲 will take place on Friday 28th November at 6pm. All welcome to attend. 🎅🏼
Skatepark 🛹 or Phase 2 of Ashbourne Linear Park will be officially opened on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025 at 12pm.
A small basketball court 🏀⛹️ is currently being added.
Expressions of interest are being sought….again….for the use of Ned’s cottage. It looks like all the legal issues and handing over of the property to Meath Co Co is finally nearing completion. Unfortunately, MCC are looking for a local group to run the cottage as a community amenity. All Councillors have been insisting that this is solely under the County library service to ensure that it is open to all.
The road surface by the Coach development and Deerpark was queried. My understanding is that due to the depth of the pipeline (sewer connection)which is 5m underground, it requires time for the infill to settle and after possibly another 3 months, a new road surface will be constructed.
Again, I’ve queried Archer’s Glen development and an update on much needed affordable housing in Ashbourne.
We welcomed the new area engineer and sub area engineer. The area engineers organise all works and schedules to be carried out in the area. It includes bread & butter issues like organising our local crews with regular maintenance and repairs in the district from potholes, tree trimming, general cleanliness to footpath repairs and more. They also inspect works undertaken by contractors and approve the likes of road opening licences for utilities.
The Ashbourne Municipal District “Pride of Place” awards took place last Wednesday night in the Pillo hotel, the awards ceremony comes at the end of a busy year for local residents groups which the council support throughout the year. This night is an appreciation for everyone’s efforts.
