Jakarta’s LRT to Boost Connectivity

Jakarta’s 86-kilometre light rapid transit (LRT) project is due for completion by 2018, in time for the Asian Games that will be held in Jakarta that year.
In September 2015, the groundbreaking ceremony for the LRT was held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), close to the Southeast Capital development in Cipayung, whose residents are set to benefit from this huge step forward for Jakarta’s public transportation system.
The LRT will be integrated with other public transportation networks such as the TransJakarta busway and the MRT system that is currently under construction in Jakarta. The LRT will reach a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour, with each train having a capacity of 300 passengers.
The first phase will connect Cibubur to Cawang in East Jakarta and through to Dukuh Atas in central Jakarta, while the second phase, which is set to begin in the last quarter of 2016, will connect Bekasi Timur to Cawang and Dukuh Atas.
The inner-city routes of the network will stretch from Kebayoran Lama in South Jakarta to Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta, with another line connecting Cempaka Putih in Central Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
