The Mystery of the Mary Celeste ⛵

In 1872, a ship called the Mary Celeste sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. Captain Benjamin Briggs traveled with his family and several sailors.

One month later, another ship found the Mary Celeste floating alone near Portugal.

The strangest part was this:

The ship was still in good condition.

The food and water had not disappeared.

The sailors’ clothes and personal belongings remained on board.

The cargo was still there.

But all the people had vanished.

The rescuers searched the ship carefully.

They discovered:

one small lifeboat was missing,

the captain’s logbook ended suddenly,

and there was some water inside the ship, but it was not sinking.

People created many theories afterward.

Some believed:

the crew saw a storm and escaped in panic,

pirates attacked the ship,

or strange sea events frightened the sailors.

However, nobody ever discovered the true answer.

Even today, the mystery of the Mary Celeste remains unsolved.
