Samhain was celebrated by the ancient Celts in Ireland, Scotland (witches) and parts of northern France (gypsies). It marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, roughly halfway between the autumn equinox and winter solstice.
It was believed that the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest on this night October 31 → November 1, allowing spirits to cross over. Now we call it Halloween. 🪄
