📢 New Release (in Spanish)

⏳ RUEDAS, CAMPANAS Y TARDONES: RELOJES MECÁNICOS EN LA CASTILLA BAJOMEDIEVAL by Víctor Pérez Álvarez is now freely available to read online.

Time didn’t always tick the way it does today. This book explores how the first mechanical clocks, installed in Castilian cities from the late fourteenth century onward, reshaped daily life. More than technical devices, these clocks became symbols of civic pride and good governance, while also carrying rich meanings in religious, philosophical, and cultural thought—from reflections on vanitas to models of the universe itself. The author also discusses the craftsmanship behind them, revealing the technical challenges faced by early clockmakers and the profound shift in how societies began to measure and experience time.

🔓 Open Access Chapter Spotlight: How far can law go in regulating the creation of life (and should it)?

📘 We’ve just released the introduction to the edited collection SURROGACY TODAY: A EUROPEAN LEGAL OVERVIEW, edited by Takis Vidalis and Ismini Kriari - an entry point into one of the most debated issues in contemporary bioethics. In this opening chapter, Silvia Salardi traces how the reproductive revolution that began with Louise Brown reshaped our understanding of family, human dignity, and legal responsibility, showing why surrogacy continues to generate radically different legal responses across Europe, including in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, and why no single philosophical framework has yet managed to settle the tension between individual desires, technological possibilities, and the rights of all those involved.

👉 Read it now on our website and explore the full volume for a deeper understading of the legal and ethical complexities of surrogacy today: https://shorturl.at/k1OPa.

Printed copies of the book will be available in May!
