We’re proud to share that I Saw a “Suno”, directed by Katalin Bársony and co-produced by the Romedia Foundation, Baxt Films and Visible Films has been awarded Outstanding Excellence at the (WRPN) Women’s International Film Festival (Spring 2026).

The WRPN Women’s International Film Festival is a global platform dedicated to celebrating women filmmakers and creators, receiving a high number of submissions from around the world each season. Being recognized in this highly competitive international context highlights the film’s outstanding artistic and narrative achievement.

This recognition marks the first festival award for the film, following its premiere in Sarajevo and screenings at Thessaloniki and BIDF. Notably, I Saw a “Suno” was the only film from Central and Eastern Europe in this year’s award selection.

The project is driven by a strong team of women creators behind the camera, including Galya Stoyanova, Marianna Rudas, and Georgina Laboda, Kata Barsony director, whose work has been essential in shaping the film’s vision, depth, and authenticity.

I Saw a “Suno” continues the important work of amplifying Romani voices through self-represented storytelling, challenging stereotypes and bringing nuanced, lived experiences to the screen.

We also warmly congratulate fellow awardees in this year’s selection: ReEarth – Dharma Pundarika: Rights of Nature (Australia) and Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife (Argentina/United States), directed by Jacinta Lagos.

A meaningful milestone for Romani-led cinema and for inclusive, diverse storytelling in the global audiovisual landscape. Hurray!

Memorable day at 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival! ✨

An incredibly engaging Q&A after a sold-out screening of Suno Dikhlem / I Saw a ‘Suno’ last Saturday, between audiance and director Katalin Bársony, co-producer Thierry Detaille, and junior producer Georgina Laboda.

Thank you for coming and staying with us even after the credits rolled. ☀️
