ApPello x Kodesage

We had a fascinating session with Kodesage, delving deep into the challenges of maintaining enterprise systems within the fintech space.

Our team and Kodesage discussed solutions to a natural but annoying phenomenon in the IT industry. In the case of in-house developed software, typically used by large enterprises, many of them lack proper documentation of initial or later developments and updates down the line. This is a challenge because if someone intends to operate the program years later, but the original developer is no longer working in the company, they can only rely on the documentation left behind.

Initially such programs might seem groundbreaking, but over time these can also become out-of-date, finding specialists who are able to operate the older system becomes more difficult, maintenance costs increase and development cycles slow down.

A resolve to this issue can be a system which is able to generate documentation for an application even from scratch, significantly facilitating the work of anyone who needs to update or develop it without being present at the time of the original developments.

So, how does the implementation of Artificial Intelligence come into the picture?

To maintain enterprise systems handling sensitive code or data requires significant manual effort, where AI can assist, but must be cautiously implemented to avoid potential data leaks or misuse. Publicly available large language models can be reprogrammed to connect not to a public database, but to the company's internal systems, thus not only IT personnel who know programming languages, but also business analysts or product managers can understand more about the system. Companies can run such a system on their own servers, so sensitive information does not reach other servers on the world wide web.

“These programs and applications are like a house. After they are built, throughout the years residents come and go and the house is still functioning, but eventually you have to do maintenance and the person who laid the pipes and wires who knows where they are is no longer available,” György Szilàgyi explains with a relevant analogy. Kodesage offers a code navigation tool using artificial intelligence that drastically reduces the time it takes to find the problem, essentially guiding users to “where and how the pipes and wires are laid”. This is especially necessary in highly regulated industries where proper documentation is a legal requirement, such as banks or healthcare players.

Even with the right AI tool, maintaining enterprise systems can be a daunting task. This is why we are continuously exploring potential synergies and how we can continue to innovate in the fintech space and why we value connecting with companies pushing the boundaries of technology.
