Diocletianus, who build Palace on the begining of 4th century. This is a unique example of ancient inhabited palace in the world. Although the occurrence of Split associated with the construction of Diocletian's Palace, 295-305.godine, archaeological finds excavated after 2000. year, proving that this area was inhabited in ancient Roman times, long before Diocletian. It is possible that there was Greek colony before romans, and because of its favorable geographical position probably there was an Illyrian settlement.
