The Caribbean region, of which Guyana is part of, is known for its soca and dancehall/reggae music genres, but Rémar found his passion in hip hop. At the age of 7 he had an inclination to poetry and by age 9 he was exposed to hip hop through TV and fell in love with the music, attire, and the lifestyle. But it was not until 12 years old when Kanye West released College Dropout that he decided he w
anted to rap. He remembers how Kanye used the music to express his truths which confirmed to him what he wanted to do… rap. Guyana, being a third world country, is known for struggle and hardships. Simple things such as getting a visa to the USA was like winning the lottery. But in the land known worldwide for the Jim Jones mass murder, co***ne shipments, and high su***de rate, Rémar had a deep inner drive for success. He was abandoned by his father and raised by his single mom, grandmother, grandfather, and uncle. Despite his disposition, he excelled in academics to gain placement in the county's top high school: Queens College, and then a prestigious job at the bank. His intellect would have been able to propel him to an above average lifestyle in Guyana had he pursued it, but his calling was for something more creative… music. Many would consider a decision to pursue music in Guyana high risk as there are no copyright laws protecting music, or a stable industry, but sometimes one cannot stop passion and its pursuit. What was quite an extraordinary feat, was that this young boy at the time, being surrounded by the creole language (which is a broken form of English) learned the hip hop culture from a distance and executed enunciations just as perfect. In his early rapping career, one would not be able to differentiate him from a bonafide US rapper. Rémar has been on the scene for a few years with his bar-spitting style of hip hop, but took a short break from writing and recording music to spend some quality time with his new born princess. In Guyana, he has gained recognition as the premier rapper in the country and not just the city. He has opened for Rick Ross as well as Dancehall superstar Konshens on their visits to Guyana. His reputation as a rapper and versed writer gained him the recognition of the US embassy in Guyana where he was requested to create a song for the then US Ambassador to promote the efforts of the embassy in Guyana. Rémar's artistic skills magnified when he not only delivered the song but was able to coach the ambassador for his rapping debut. The song was executed quite successfully and gained nothing but positive feedback upon its release. Today, Rémar’s experiences and culture have blended to make the perfect brew of hip hop dancehall/reggae music for his fans. His writing ability is like a progressive AI machine that keeps improving the previous release in his pursuit of perfection. Fans of the tropical culture are sure to enjoy and vibe to his music.
