QUEEN’S COLLEGE CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE VILLAGE IN HONOUR OF GUYANA’S NATIONAL JUBILEE
In observance of Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee Independence celebration, Queen’s College hosted an Independence Village on Friday, May 22, 2026.
To commence the opening ceremony of the village, the Queen’s College Scout Troupe nobly hoisted the Golden Arrowhead and Queen’s College Flag. This was followed by a dynamic program chaired by Mr. Albert Inshanally. The program consisted of several items which were contributed by students of the college including poems, choral renditions, and dances.
Additionally, headmistress, Mrs. Donna Isles charged the audience with a nostalgic and spirited speech on Guyanese heritage. Following, the guest speaker, Mr. Stanley Ming, a multifaceted man, captivated the audience with his reflective and motivational speech. Notably, he recounted that the first person to hoist the Golden Arrowhead in 1966 was a former Head Prefect of the college, Mr. Desmond Roberts, underscoring the institution’s distinguished legacy. To conclude the program, the National Anthem was sung and the Village declared officially open.
Each house represented a region of Guyana, showcasing its culture, history, economic activities, traditions, and attractions.
