On the occasion of Emancipation Day, August 01, 2023, the Management and Staff of the Local Government Commission send greetings to all our fellow Guyanese and, moreso, the descendants of the African Slaves.
We invite you to consider and to care not merely for the holiday but, importantly, to consider the significance of the day for all Guyana. Let us as a people determine to stop focusing on perceived differences but to focus on strengthening what we have in common and the common goals we seek to attain.
On Tuesday, August 01, 2023, Guyanese will observe the 185th anniversary since African Slaves were freed on August 01, 1838. Let us use the occasion to resolve to focus on strengthening the cultural and historical connections and similarities among our six races and to reject divisions driven by racial fear. Let us embrace our cultural differences.
Emancipation is of universal significance and ought of national interest to involve all of us.
Happy Emancipation Day 2023

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) observes its 50th Anniversary this year under the theme ’50 Years Strong: A Solid Foundation to Build on’.
Let us not forget that CARICOM was established on 4 July 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas by Founding Fathers, Prime Ministers Errol Barrow for Barbados; Forbes Burnham for Guyana; Michael Manley for Jamaica; and Dr. Eric Williams for Trinidad and Tobago.
Happy CARICOM Day
