# Mykonos

The church of Agios Ioannis Kastri on Skopelos is located in the region of Kastri and is accessible from Glossa. Before Glossa is a sign with “Agios Ioannis Kastri” on it and another sign that says "MAMMA MIA'S Agios Ioannis".

This lovely church became famous because of the film "MAMMA MIA" where many scenes from the wedding were actually filmed there. At this place Meryl Streep sang the famous ABBA song "The winner takes it all".

The church stands on top of a rock and provides an amazing view to the coasts of Skopelos and to Alonissos. The church was built in the 18th century by fishermen who found an icon of Saint John the Baptist on this place. Its name actually means Saint John on the Castle, assuming that probably there was a small castle there in the past to protect the island from pirates and enemy invasions. The impressive rock is linked to the rest of the island through a narrow path with 110 steps carved into the stone. The interior of the church has beautiful icons and old ecclesiastical items to see. A beautiful sand-pebble beach is formed right beneath the rock and it gets pretty crowded in summer.
