Παραμένει στυλάτο, χωρίς να κολλάει στην contemporary ασφάλεια το κουαρτέτο της Καταλανής σαξοφωνίστριας Irene Reig . Κι αυτό αποσαφηνίζεται περίτρανα όταν την ακούς στον πρόσφατο δίσκο της ÀNIMA να φυσάει τα σαξόφωνα και με straight hard bop δύναμη, αλλά κι έχοντας τον τρόπο να κατεβάζει σχεδόν ταυτόχρονα ταχύτητες, με μια αφοπλιστική, σχεδόν μελαγχολική, μελωδική απλότητα. Θα την υποδεχθούμε, όχι ως «ψαρωμένη» rookie αλλά με εφόδια κι αποσκευές τη διαδρομή της σε χώρους και φεστιβάλ, όπως τα Jamboree Jazz Club, X-Jazz Berlin, Grachtenfestival, Festival de Jazz de Vitoria, Trondheim Festival, The Hermitage, Instituto Cervantes, Lugo Jazz Festival, καθώς και συνεργασίες με καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Maria Schneider, Perico Sambeat, Dick Oatts, Gramophone Allstars, Bop Collective και John Swana. Είναι ζηλευτή η μουσική που βρίσκει τον τρόπο να μας μιλήσει κατευθείαν χωρίς μεσάζοντες, κι η Reig έχει δείξει πως κυλά στις φλέβες της αυτό το ευφυές και cool χάρισμα για να βρει συναισθηματικό κέντρο.

This elegant and cohesive quartet led by Catalan saxophonist Irene Reig manages to remain stylish without clinging to the sometimes stifling safety of contemporary jazz. Listen to her recent album ÀNIMA and you will hear Reig’s saxophone easily shift between straight-up hard bop power and disarming, almost melancholy, melodic simplicity. She arrives at Athens with an international career that includes major venues and festivals, such as Jamboree Jazz Club, X-Jazz Berlin, Grachtenfestival, Festival de Jazz de Vitoria, Trondheim Festival, The Hermitage, Instituto Cervantes, and Lugo Jazz Festival, as well as major collaborations with artists like Maria Schneider, Perico Sambeat, Dick Oatts, Gramophone Allstars, Bop Collective and John Swana. There’s something special about music that finds a direct and unmediated way to our hearts and Reig has proven that she has a gift for hitting that emotional bull’s-eye with every performance.

Το τρίο που λάτρεψε ο Gilles Peterson κι οι απανταχού aficionados του σύγχρονου ήχου, έρχεται με φόρα, cosmic beats και hip hop φλέγμα. Διότι οι 。jazzbois 。 δεν παίζουν για τους πιουρίστες, αλλά για τους νέους jazzheads που ακούνε τις groove ιαχές του Herbie Hancock χωρίς να τρομάζουν, που στα τεφτέρια τους ο Thundercat κάνει τραμπάλα με τον J Dilla, εκεί που το fusion συμβιώνει με νωχελικές lofi επανεκτελέσεις θεμάτων σαν το “Windmills of Your Mind” . Έχουν ήδη γράψει χιλιόμετρα με αλλεπάλληλα sold out shows, κι όχι όπου κι όπου. Από τα λονδρέζικα 100 club και Jazz Cafe, μέχρι το φεστιβάλ του Montreux, τo jazzy hip-hop fusion τρίο από τη Βουδαπέστη, μόλις κυκλοφόρησε το δίσκο Montreal, και φτάνει στην Αθήνα την κατάλληλη στιγμή, έπειτα κι από το πολυπαιγμένο Still Blunted του 2024. Άλλωστε δεν αργεί o καιρός, κι οι λόγοι, που θα βλέπουμε τους Jazzbois στον ίδιο βάθρο με τους Domi and JD Beck αλλά και την αγαπημένη Nala Sinephro.

Beloved by Gilles Peterson and aficionados of modern sound everywhere, this trio will light up the Athens Jazz stage with their expansive cosmic beats and endless hip hop cool. Jazzbois are not for the narrow-minded purists. They play for the new jazzheads who are not intimidated by the war cries hidden in Herbie Hancock’s powerful grooves and love to imagine Thundercat jamming with J Dilla in a musical space where fusion can co-exist with laid-back, lofi versions of songs like “Windmills of Your Mind”. This jazzy hip-hop fusion trio from Budapest have already performed multiple sold out shows at some of the most important venues on the continent, from 100 club and Jazz Café in London to the Montreux Festival. Having just released their latest album, Montreal, they are arriving in Athens at the peak of their career after the success of their 2024 album Still Blunted. At this pace, Jazzbois will soon earn a place in our hearts next to the likes of Domi and JD Beck and Nala Sinephro.
