Emmanuel Saridakis is an explorative improviser who combines elements from jazz and traditional Greek music in a very unique manner. In 2006 he was recognized by the Thelonious Monk jazz piano competition as one of the 25 best jazz pianists.
Here's an example of practicing a simple exercise in order to do an improvisation on rhythm changes with both hands simultaneously.
1) Instead of having 2 chords per bar use 1 chord. The A section becomes 16 bars.
2) Play on your right hand a continuous eighth note line.
3) With your left hand, start playing the notes of the chords in an arpeggiated manner.
The purpose of this exercise is to improvise on the spot and not to play a written solo.
