As a documentary producer and war correspondent, Sotiris Danezis has worked in more than 80 countries around the globe, including several of the world's "hotspots" and areas affected by conflict, humanitarian and political crises. He has covered a diverse range of locations, from isolated North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran, to Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Falkland Islands, Haiti, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Congo, Rwanda, El Salvador, Colombia, and regions such as the Amazon forest, the Sahara Desert, and Alaska. Sotiris is the creator and presenter of two highly popular Greek TV documentary series on Mega Channel: "War Zone" and "Οrizontas". He has received numerous awards as a journalist, including the prestigious "Athanasios Botsis Foundation Award", which is the highest distinction in the field of journalism in Greece. Born in Samos, Sotiris studied journalism at the University of the Arts London, London College of Communication. He began his career at private radio stations as a news editor and presenter. After completing his studies, he transitioned to television and worked as a reporter and presenter in the news programs of SKAI TV (renamed Alpha in 1999) from January 1995 to December 1999. Throughout his career as a war correspondent, Sotiris covered significant events such as the crisis of the pyramid schemes in Albania (1997), the NATO bombing in Kosovo (1999), the wars in Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003), the conflict in Libya (2011), the Crimean crisis and military confrontation in eastern Ukraine (2013), the Russian invasion in Ukraine (2022), as well as major international events like the terrorist attacks of 9/11 (2001), the tsunami tragedy in Asia (2004), Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans (2005), the Jihadist terrorist attacks in Paris (2015) and Brussels (2016), the demonstrations against G8 in Genoa (2001), and the destructive earthquake in Haiti (2010), where he played a crucial role in the rescue of a trapped individual. Sotiris has been recognized with various honors and awards, including the Athanasios Botsis Foundation Award (2008), the "Best Reporting" Award at the "Faces 2007" TV prizes, and a special tribute at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (2008). Apart from his documentary work, Sotiris is passionate about photography. His exhibitions, such as "A Complex World" at the Museum of Cycladic Art in 2009 and "A Second of Silence" at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography in 2008, showcase his talent and artistic pursuits. In collaboration with EMI, he released a double CD-DVD featuring excerpts from 25 "War Zone" documentaries, original music from the series, and photos from his personal archive.
