Marmarometry

Parnonas is a mountain1940 meters high which parts Lakonia from Arkadia. That’s where it takes its name since it is the place of its excavation. It’s a chalky marble of excellent strength and very beautiful natural characteristics. It shows light grey – sky blue background and very beautiful white and dark grey waves. MARBLE OF ALIVERI
This is a chalky marble of grey color (tephra) up to blue tephra and shades of grey darker and lighter creating interesting colors and designs presenting satisfied stability. The grey marble of Aliveri, excavated for the first time from the mine near Aliveri, in the center of Evia, it was firstly used for buildings in 1960s. From then on quite a few marble mines have been functioning in Aliveri but also further south in the area of Dystos. Today (2011) the Aliveri marble is excavated only from two mines and its yearly production is approximately 5.000 cubic meters. A big quantity of the production is exported to different countries, as bulk or half ready final product. The Aliveri marble is one of the classical Greek marbles.
