Today I attended the book signing of Teodor Currentzis poetry collection titled “Ανώτερη Όλων το Καλοκαίρι”(Summer Above All), published by ( ). It was noon, right in the center of Athens. The line was long. Passersby kept stopping to ask us what we were waiting for, because the truth is that in Greece you usually experience something like this at a bookstore either with Lena Manta’s novels or with Harry Potter!

Anyway, as the line moved forward and I kept getting closer to Mr. Currentzis, I noticed people leaving the bookstore in tears. The first time, I thought the person must have been dealing with something personal and didn’t pay much attention. The second, the third, the fourth, the fifth… that’s when you could understand why the line was so long! Because this is a great artist who has given us unbelievable and unforgettable musical moments.

When I reached the table, he was rather reserved. Extremely meticulous, with the most beautiful, calligraphic dedication and signature I have ever received in my life, he was clearly exhausted by the sheer number of photos taken that day — yet he didn’t refuse to take one with me as well.

Having already read a large part of his book, I think that the man who spoke to us for so many years through music has now chosen words. Even if he seemed quiet, he chose the greatest verbosity of all… poetry! Thank you, maestro, for making us “feel”.

P.S.2: While waiting in line, I met the writer and his adorable wife. So humble that he didn’t even mention he had recently released his own book titled “Αυτό έκανες πάντα” (This Is What You Always Did) — I found out by overhearing a conversation with the publishing house. I bought it, but I haven’t read it yet. I’ll come back to it! Support modern Greek writers, they need us!
