Raja

Based on how he moved around and carried himself, my impression of Raja was that of a relatively young, strong, and healthy cat. I was hoping then that with some basic vet checks and a little fostering, he would soon find a home because he’s gorgeous.

I have rarely been so mistaken.
-Raja is older than 10 years
-He’s positive for AIDS (FIV)
-He has a huge abscess on his lower jaw that’s not letting him open his mouth
-His kidneys are damaged
-He has the standard dental problems one would expect, including inflammation and teeth that need extraction
-The x-ray showed bones in his stomach (the cats of Perissos eat garbage, including lots of hyper-dangerous cooked bones people throw to them because “everyone knows that cats eat bones”)
-The x-ray showed advanced osteoarthritis, which is very painful

Raja was neutered, his abscess was treated, and he received antibiotics and anti-parasitics. He’ll go back for dental surgery as soon as possible.

He’s currently hiding under the bed. However, he must leave his hideout and start his treatment, including his special renal diet. Feeding him under the bed is not an option because a) he’s eaten nothing so far and just looks around frozen and b) according to the book of Boy George, all food belongs to Boy George, and he shamelessly intervenes and tries to steal it.

The cost for Raja so far has been €168 (expected to rise).

Raja is another strong example why it's important to help the cats of Perissos: even cats looking great from afar are actually suffering.

Gaston has found a foster home (where he's currently hiding under the closet!) 🤭

Right when I was getting seriously desperate that he would have to return outside, I received a message from Abby that she's willing to help. Gaston is incredibly lucky; his foster home is spacious with lots of light and great energy. Abby gave me an amazing first impression, and I feel safe that Gaston will have a happy stay with his foster mom! 😊

Yesterday was preparation day. First, I went to the pet store to get his dowry: litter box and litter, food and water bowls, dry and wet food, and a small scratching post. Then, I took Gaston to the vet for his second vaccination, second spot on treatment against parasites, fiv/felv check, blood test check, dental check, and mani/pedi. He was pronounced perfectly healthy and was decided to be 2 years old (or a bit younger) 🌻

The cost for the whole adventure was €218 (€104 pet store, €94 vet clinic, €20 transport) with €70 covered by Tanya and Arancha and the rest pending.

Please continue supporting the Perissos project! There is a long way to go, and the deadline is fast approaching!

Made an attempt for these two this morning. She is emaciated and has breathing problems. He has a huge abscess on his leg, probably from a fight because he's not neutered. They were eating half-cooked plain pasta that an elderly man had left for them on his terrace. I'll try again tomorrow, and I've arranged to provide him with a steady supply of cat food

One of the cats in the area. Long-haired ginger, very friendly. Wears a blue collar with a bell.
