Al-Isra' 17:7
إِنۡ أَحۡسَنتُمۡ أَحۡسَنتُمۡ لِأَنفُسِكُمۡۖ وَإِنۡ أَسَأۡتُمۡ فَلَهَاۚ
[And said], "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, [you do it] to them [i.e., yourselves]."

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said,
“Being grateful (to Allah) obligates the increase of blessings and seeking His forgiveness wards off punishments.”
