Scaling up Solar PV installations in Ghana through net-metering requires new skills. A delegation from the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Commission of Ghana and the Embassy of Switzerland officially launched the training series for staff of the Distribution Utilities today at the Don Bosco Solar Africa Training Centre. The training will build the capacity of at least 180 technical staff in the installation and commissioning of grid-tied solar PV systems. The trainings are funded by Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, SECO, as part of the Ghana Solar Photovoltaic based Net-metering Project. Don Bosco Solar Advance Professional Solar PV Training Graduation Event.

We are happy to announce the successful completion of the fifth-round Advanced professional Solar training at Don Bosco Solar centre Ghana.

Twenty-seven graduates including 7 females and 20 males from Ghana, Sierraleone and South Sudan, have successfully completed a six-month Solar Advanced Professionals course being the fifth batch at the Don Bosco Training Institute, Tema-Ghana under its Solar Department.

A collaborative effort between the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana - AHK Ghana, Don Bosco Training Institute, Jakob-Christian Adam Foundation, and the AGI [Association of Ghana Industries]),

The aim of the initiative is to skill the youth in photovoltaic solar technology to earn a livelihood, and assist meet the growing energy requirements of the country.

After completion of the course, trainees receive internationally recognised certificates from both Don Bosco and AHK. Graduates are certified to carry out solar PV installations, System design and commissioning of solar installations, inspect, test and troubleshot faulty PV installations up to 300KWp.

During the graduation ceremony graduates have exhibited several project works, which are Solar oriented and problem-solving solutions. This includes Solar Powered Box, Solar Powered Incubator, Solar PV Module self- washing system and Solar PV products and installations, System designs and others.
