Diaries from Ananguié, Côte D'Ivoire.
A man, his loyal dog, and the wilderness of Ananguié.
What makes this moment even more profound is the inscription on his shirt, written in a Ghanaian language.
It reads "YEN ADEƐ KESEƐ BI AFRI YENSA" - "WE HAVE LOST SOMETHING OF GREAT VALUE", a cloth with that phrase, is often used by grieving families mourning a loved one.
The irony? He’s a hunter, a taker of life in the forests of Ananguié, Côte d’Ivoire.
Perhaps unknowingly wearing a message mourning the very lives he takes. The animals separated from their precious families.
The fabric speaks a sorrow he may never read, from a land whose language he doesn’t know.
One of the days, after we had wrapped up our shoot and packing our gears, I noticed him making his way home with his loyal pup.
In the moment of taking the pictures, I didn't notice the inscription on his clothes. It was during the time of culling the photos.
Indeed, life is layered with hidden stories, stitched in the places we least expect.
