On this day, the world pauses to recognize the strength, resilience, and achievements of women and girls everywhere as we commemorate International Women’s Day.
At the University of Mines and Technology, a special gathering brings together young minds, industry leaders, and advocates for change. The event, organized by the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union in collaboration with Girls in Science and Technology (GIST) and the University of Mines and Technology, seeks to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of women in science and mining.
Under the theme “Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls,” the program creates a platform for open dialogue and meaningful engagement between experienced professionals and young female students who aspire to shape the future of science and technology.
Executives and members of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union take their time to interact with the girls, sharing knowledge, experiences, and encouragement. Their presence symbolizes a commitment to building a mining industry where opportunity, respect, and fairness are accessible to all.
A major focus of the discussion centers on rights and justice, particularly the critical issue of sexual harassment. Through honest conversations, the participants are reminded that every woman and girl deserves to learn, work, and grow in environments that are safe, respectful, and inclusive.
The discussions emphasize awareness, courage, and the power of collective action. The message is clear: when women and girls understand their rights and are supported by strong institutions and communities, they can break barriers and lead transformative change.
As the program unfolds, inspiration fills the room. Young women are reminded that the future of science, technology, and mining is not only theirs to enter but theirs to shape.
Because empowering women and girls today means building a stronger, fairer, and more innovative world tomorrow.
