Last diary entry 😏

So, our last post. What a tour! Saturday night was spent with the team exploring some of Guernsey’s finest hospitality, finally relaxing after a pretty intensive three days of shooting. Five shoots a day can take it out of you, y’know!

With three of the team hailing from Guernsey, we had to say the first of our goodbyes to each other. A fairly sociable ferry departing at 10:00 meant the rest of us still got back to Bisley at a reasonable hour but a fairly choppy crossing made for a few green faces. Once all the post tour admin was rattled through, the team went their separate ways.

The drives home were full of reflections and memories that I hope all involved will remember for a long time. We must of course thank all of the Guernsey Rifle Club for their hospitality and sharing their beautiful range with us, Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting for their unwavering support throughout and all of you who have followed us along the way. Lastly, as the adjutant, I’ll make one last thank you to all of the shooters, who have not only performed so well on the range, but perhaps more importantly, have been a fantastically brilliant bunch of humans, representing their units, schools and themselves with such distinction!

Though the tour is over, I’ve no doubt that this is not the last we’ll have seen of this fantastic bunch of shooters. However for now our duty is done and we will hand the baton over to next year’s team in due course. If you’d like to keep getting your fix of young superstars shooting well then please follow the British Cadet Rifle Team - Athelings page who have recently arrived in Jersey to compete there. Good luck guys!

On day seven of the tour, we shot the last competitions of the Guernsey Open Meeting consisting of 2 and 15’s at 500 and 600 yards. Highlights were Georgie winning the 500 yard competition, the Castella, with a 75.12 and two of our own, Otto and Scott, competing head to head in a tie shoot for the 600 competition, the Le Maitre. Scott took the spoils by a single v-bull.

After lunch we started the team competition against the Guernsey Rifle Club and the London and Middlesex Rifle Association. The afternoon proved to be extremely difficult for all as the wind picked up with gusts of up to 31mph. Regardless, the team shot well but alas, victory in the 8 person team went to Guernsey who were very deserving winners! 👏 Invited to also compete in a six person team match that added the touring London & Middlesex contingent, fortunes were reversed and we claimed victory by a single point! Well done team and Braden who top scored for GB U19s with 145.17! 👏

Finishing the day, we attended the GRC barbecue and prize-giving at which the team brought home a wide selection of silver, including Otto who took the 500 yard aggregate. (And for those that are worrying, don’t worry, Georgie did manage to wear her 6th and final pair of shoes on the celebratory night out 👠🍾.) That’s the end of the shooting, but please stay tuned as we wrap up the tour!

Guernsey win the Summer Match against the GB under-19s. In very windy and buffeting conditions – up to double-figures at 600 yards – the hosts scored 1140.101v to the visitors' 1119.98v.

The under-19s unfortunately suffered a rifle malfunction at 300 yards, which left them with an ultimately insurmountable mountain to climb at 500 and 600. It was a great effort nonetheless.

The GRC's top scorer was Jon Branch with 146.16v, coached by Rory McKenna, whilst Braden Morris top-scored for the under-19s with 145.17v, coached by Georgina Bohn.

Last night's Grand Aggregate leader, Georgina Bohn, smashes in a 75.12v in the 500-yard Castella to pull out a SIX point lead with one range left to shoot. She's already underway at 600 yards...

On day 5, the team started the morning with lots of suncream, with the forecast looking good for the day (especially Scott who learnt the hard way yesterday). The first competition was the ‘O’Toole’ (300x and 600x), which saw many high scores through the team, with Georgie, Jacques, and Braden coming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.

During lunchtime, with the boys “being boys”, they swam to the largest rock they could see nearby, and jumped off it as a way of cooling off in the heat, making sure to swim quickly back to shore after a few jumps, to ensure they didn’t miss message 1.

After drying off, we shot a Kings 2 style competition (the ‘Bisset’) with some high scores coming off, especially with Amelie winning by scoring the only 150.21 ex150.30, and Georgie coming second with a 148.20.

Upon finishing shooting, and scoffing the last remaining sandwiches in the club house, the team went to Cobo Bay to enjoy fish and chips whilst watching the sunset. A great way to celebrate the team performance so far, with everyone in the top half of the Grand Agg’ 👏.

Going into tomorrow Georgie is leading the Grand Agg’ by 1 point from Guernsey’s Alexander Stewart. Will she take victory and will she wear the last pair of shoes?!

Bring on the team match tomorrow 💪

🏆 The GB under-19s' Amelie Weinberger scores the only 150 of the afternoon, with 21 V-bulls, to win the Bisset trophy.

At the end of day 2, Georgina Bohn and Alexander Stewart have broken away from the rest of the field in the Grand Aggregate. Georgina now leads by one point going into the final morning on 451.64v (4 off) from Alexander on 450.64v (5 off).

The Castella, a 2 and 15 at 500 yards, and the Le Maître, the same at 600 yards, will decide the winner tomorrow morning. You won't want to miss it.

On day 4 the shooting started at the picturesque range on Guernsey looking out to sea on both sides.

Luckily the weather was lovely and sunny, creating a few severe tan lines, which coupled with a constant wind meant good scores all round. Both Georgia and Otto scored possibles this morning in The Star.

Later on Georgie went on to shoot a 105.17 in the Ex-Servicemans competition, winning that and finishing the day at the top of the Grand Aggregate. An amazing feat given the standard of competition here!

We rounded off the day with a meal cooked by the boys which consisted of fajitas with all the fixings and a lemon cheesecake to finish (and perhaps a cheeky pub trip to celebrate A Level results).

Tomorrow brings The O’Toole and The Bisset. Come on team!!

🏆 Georgina Bohn wins the Ex-Servicemen's with a score of 105.17v, including scores of 35.7v at 500 and 600 yards. Georgina now leads the Grand Aggregate after day 1, on 203.28v (2 off).
