❗Human Rights House Tbilisi responds to the State Security Service's recent initiation of an investigation into the work of the non-governmental organization "Canvas Georgia" (Canvas-Geo)
The summoning of the organization's Serbian members, Sinisa Sikman, Jelena Stojsic, and Slobodan Djinovic, alongside their Georgian colleague Nino Gogiberidze and director Giorgi Meladze, is viewed as undue pressure on an organization dedicated to the causes of activism and non-violent protest.
📣Human Rights House Tbilisi condemns any unwarranted intrusion into the activities of human rights defenders and activists, urging the authorities to cease their discreditation of the civil sector. The investigation's premise rests on an alleged plan to "overthrow the legally elected government," a claim incongruent with an organization that primarily focuses on promoting awareness of activism and non-violent protest through legitimate means. The organization's activities strictly adhere to legal boundaries, with their objectives openly accessible to the public and their content consistently characterized by non-violence.
❗The initiation of an investigation without a factual foundation represents an unwarranted accusation, exerting undue pressure on the activities of the civil sector and impeding their legitimate pursuits.

❗თბილისის ადამიანის უფლებათა სახლი ეხმაურება სახელმწიფო უსაფრთოხების სამსახურის მიერ ბოლო დროს წამოწყებულ გამოძიებას არასამთავრობო ორგანიზაცია „კანვას საქართველოს“ საქმიანობის შესახებ.

ორგანიზაციის სერბი წევრების, სინისა სიკმანის, სლობოდან ჯინოვიჩის და ელენა სტოისჩის, ასევე ქართველი წევრის ნინო გოგიბერიძისა და დირექტორის, გიორგი მელაძის დაბარება საგამოძიებო უწყებებში აღიქმება როგორც ზეწოლა ორგანიზაციაზე, რომელიც აქტივიზმისა და არაძალადობრივი პროტესტის იდეებზე მუშაობს.

📣,„თბილისის ადამიანის უფლებათა სახლი" გმობს უფლებადამცველებისა და აქტივისტების საქმიანობაში ნებისმიერი სახის ჩარევას და მოუწოდებს ხელისუფლებას შეწყვიტოს სამოქალაქო სექტორის შევიწროება. გამოძიების დაწყების საფუძვლად „კანონიერად არჩეული ხელისუფლების ჩამოშლის“ სავარაუდო გეგმა დასახელდა, რაც არ მიესადაგება ორგანიზაციის ლეგიტიმური საქმიანობის ფარგლებში აქტივიზმისა და არაძალადობრივი პროტესტის შესახებ ცნობიერების ამაღლების მიმართულებით განხორციელებულ აქტივობებს. აღნიშნული აქტივობები ლეგიტიმურია, ინფორმაცია ამ იდეების შესახებ ხელმისაწვდომია საჯაროდ და მათი შინაარსი არაძალადობრივია.

🔸We urge the international human rights organization, supporters of democracy and human rights in Georgia to take notice of the above developments and communicate this with Georgia’s relevant public and private institutions. We believe that such support will significantly aid the activists working for strengthening democracy in Georgia.
