I have tried to raise these issues with the parties that have the authority and knowledge to take action. Nothing has been done. Now it's time to go another route:
I am writing to formally express my serious concern and disappointment about the ongoing, unfinished roadwork at the Falledge area along the Grand Anse Main Road, which has now lasted over six weeks without resolution.
This morning, the situation escalated into a dangerous and potentially tragic incident. A visiting guest leaving through our entrance gate onto the sidewalk was nearly hit and could have been killed because a government small truck was driving directly on the sidewalk. This is an unacceptable and extremely hazardous condition for both residents and visitors.
Grand Anse is the main tourism corridor of Grenada, and it is very troubling that such incomplete and unsafe infrastructure issues are being allowed to persist during the peak tourism season. The lack of effective traffic management, unfinished sidewalks, and heavy construction vehicles using pedestrian areas pose a significant safety risk. Equally concerning is the ongoing exposure of citizens, workers, and visitors to weeks of excessive dust and disruptions. Businesses and residents in the area have endured these conditions patiently, understanding that infrastructure improvements require testing and phased completion.
At this point, the situation highlights:
• Neglect in completing the project • Unprofessional management of a vital roadway
• A clear shift of responsibility between agencies
• A disregard for the safety and well-being of both Grenadians and visitors
It is very disappointing that the Ministry of Tourism allows such an unfinished and unsafe condition to remain in the country’s key tourism area during peak season, while the Ministry of Infrastructure and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation & Transportation either seems unaware of how serious the situation is or is unwilling to act quickly. Grenada takes pride in its hospitality and visitor experience. Allowing guests to navigate dusty roads, unsafe sidewalks, and heavy equipment operating in pedestrian zones damages our reputation and endangers lives.
I respectfully urge the relevant authorities to:
• Immediately address pedestrian safety from the Falledge to the corner before Silversands, heading south.
• Enforce proper traffic control and prohibit vehicles from using sidewalks.
• Provide a clear and communicated timeline for completing the work.
• Implement immediate dust mitigation measures.
This situation has persisted much too long, and the lack of urgency is unacceptable for such a vital national corridor.
We all support infrastructure improvements, but they should not come at the expense of safety, professionalism, or accountability. We must hold our government and contractors—who are spending "our money" on these projects—responsible for their actions or inactions. Remember, it is our money. It doesn't belong to an individual or a business; it belongs to Grenada, and the government and contractors work for us, the people of Grenada. It is our duty to question and challenge their actions.
