Grenlec CEO on Understanding Rising Electricity Prices and how to Manage the Impact

Electricity prices are rising and we understand why many customers are concerned. Like the increases in gas and the cost of everyday goods, these higher costs are being driven by events beyond our borders that continue to affect fuel and energy markets.

Because the electricity fuel charge is calculated using a three-month average fuel cost, the impact of changing world fuel prices is not felt immediately by our customers. This is why, even as global fuel prices began climbing months ago, the full effect has only recently started to appear on electricity bills.

For some time, we have been sharing updates on these global developments, explaining how fuel prices affect the cost of generating electricity, and encouraging customers to conserve energy to help manage their bills. Since May, the fuel charge has increased significantly, with a further increase in June.
