Grenada’s iconic Green Bridge has long been more than just a crossing, it is a quiet witness to the island’s growth and change.
Nestled along the western coast, this steel truss bridge has connected communities for decades, serving as a vital link for residents and travelers alike. Its distinctive green frame and sturdy design reflect an era of engineering built to endure both time and the elements.
Today, just a short distance away, the Kirani James Athletic Stadium stands as a focal point of Grenada’s athletic season, buzzing with energy, competition, and national pride. Yet, the Green Bridge reminds us that long before the roar of the crowd and the rise of modern sporting facilities, it was already here, quietly carrying generations across its span.
A symbol of resilience, connection, and history, bridging not just land, but our past and present. 🇬🇩
3 February | On the Road to Independence 🇬🇩
As Grenada approaches the anniversary of Independence, we reflect on the role of Sir Eric Matthew Gairy, the nation’s first Prime Minister, in the struggle for self-government.
Rising from the labour movement of the 1950s, Gairy was instrumental in advancing workers’ rights and leading Grenada toward political independence, achieved on 7 February 1974. His legacy is complex, yet his contribution to Grenada’s transition from colonial rule remains a significant chapter in the nation’s history.
Understanding this past helps us better appreciate Grenada’s journey to nationhood.
