York has always stood for compassion, dignity and human rights. That’s why the Labour government’s latest immigration proposals are so concerning.

As a City of Sanctuary and the UK’s first Human Rights City, we have a responsibility to speak up when people seeking safety are used as scapegoats. These plans do nothing to fix pressures on housing, the NHS or public services. They simply divide communities and target some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Our Parliamentary Spokesperson, Lars Kramm, is calling on York’s Labour MPs to reject these proposals and back a fair, workable and genuinely humane asylum system.

York knows that our strength lies in compassion, not cruelty.

📢 Feeling let down by the recent cuts to services for older people in York?

During the General Election, we were promised that older residents would be in safe hands. But now, the Labour-led council has slashed funding for vital Age UK York clubs, leaving our elderly community more vulnerable than ever. This, combined with the loss of Winter Fuel Payment, shows a lack of commitment to those who need support the most. 😔

This isn’t the change we were promised. Instead of protecting the most vulnerable, these cuts are making life even harder for those who rely on our support as a caring society. It’s time for Labour to step up and prioritise our community’s needs over outdated fiscal policies. We need bold, fair solutions that lift everyone up, not decisions that deepen inequality.
