Yorkshire Building Control

Most delays on small developments trace back to one thing: building control involved too late. Here are 5 moments in your project where calling YBC early protects your programme and your margin - each one is a point where an early conversation is worth more than you'd think.

Foundation inspection: what a YBC inspector actually looks for.
When we attend at foundation stage, we're checking excavation depth and width against the approved drawings, ground conditions relative to what the structural design assumes, reinforcement positioning where specified, and whether the formation is genuinely ready for concrete - not just close enough.
Across Yorkshire and surrounding regions, ground conditions vary considerably. We've seen projects where the conditions on site differed materially from the desk study. Getting into a conversation with your inspector before pour day is always time well spent.
Inspections work best when they confirm what you already know is right. That starts with early engagement.

Smaller developments - a loft conversion, a rear extension, etc. - often get underway with the assumption that building control is less of a concern at that scale.
Building regulations apply regardless of project size. The inspection stages, notification requirements, and approval process are the same, and the consequences of getting them wrong are proportionally more painful on a small scheme with tight margins.
Whatever the scale of your project in Yorkshire, we're here to help you get it right. Get in touch before work starts.
