Community Interest in a New Town Centre Post Office 15/05/2026

The banking hub have initiated a survey to try to bring a post office back to Wymondham town centre. The survey is here or you can visit the hub to take part
Just to be clear the post office cannot be in the hub but would need a separate location

I have received the following from Taylor Wimpey re the Bridge closure and roadworks. Cllr Suzanne Nuri Nixon and i will follow up.
Dear Cllr Roly Frosdick,

Thank you for your response dated 2nd April 2026 regarding residents' concerns about the ongoing Wymondham subway works. We are very sorry for the disruption that these works have caused over an extended period. Please be assured that we understand that these closures have been disruptive and frustrating for residents, and we appreciate their patience and understanding as we continue with the subway works.

Taylor Wimpey and Vistry have appointed a specialist contractor to manage the subway works, including coordinating with utility providers and the local highway authority to schedule the necessary road closures and deliver a coordinated programme of works.

Due to the complexity of the Wymondham subway improvements, the works must be completed in phases. We recognise that the associated road closures are disruptive, however, Norfolk County Council (NCC) has approved road closures only in the weeks directly before, after and during school holidays. This approach is intended to minimise traffic disruption and help protect the safety of children during term time.

We recognise that this approach has been frustrating for residents and for those who need to travel through Wymondham day to day. Please be assured that we are progressing the works as quickly as possible within the limited road-closure windows, following the granting of all appropriate consents by NCC. We also understand the concerns about the wider network, including the Hethel roundabout works, and take these into account during our ongoing discussions with the local authority when planning and scheduling activity.

We appreciate that the extended timescales are difficult for residents. A key constraint is that the existing utilities (including cables and pipework) are currently located within the raised footpath on Station Road, and the diversion works must be carried out by the relevant utility providers before we can progress to the next stages.

During the autumn road closures, we will remove the raised footpath and divert all services beneath the new subway units, with the exception of the water main. In line with the design approved by Anglian Water, the water main will be diverted under Station Road during the April road closures. The Fibre diversion is planned for the summer and will not require any road closures.

We hope that this information helps you address any concerns that local residents may raise with you relating to the subway works. We appreciate the support that town councillors provide to the community, particularly when residents are understandably frustrated by the disruption. We would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to you and Councillor Suzanne Nuri-Nixon to meet in person, in order to talk through the remaining programme and any local issues in more detail. If you could share your availability over the next few weeks, we will come back to finalise the necessary arrangements.
