Sometimes I take what I can get and other times I’m just lucky to get beautifully grained wood still green, freshly cut. Processing the wood to get as much as I can from it requires patience. Splitting the wood with an axe takes practice

The newest of six so far from this mystery wood. The handle was carved back in the opposite direction giving it ripples in the grains.

A quick cooking spoon carved today out of aspen (as Americans call it back in the states) I’ve left a live edge on the handle. This will dry out in the fridge for a couple of days before finishing cuts, a cleaning, sanding, burnishing and bees wax salad bowl finish. I’ll repost when it’s done next week.

Darragh 2024 brought a lot of wind damage to the area. That’s good for a wood carver! I don’t know the species of wood but the grains are lovely. The following pics are of the steps before finished.

Lost my poly tunnel in the garden yesterday in that storm. It has upset me but the autumnal gods gifted me this. Don’t know what it is yet but it likes being carved.
