Another Google algorithm update. Another headache for SEOs.
Last week, Google announced a new algorithm update targeting the more spammy side of the search results. This is the fifth algorithm update in less than a year.
July 2021: Link Spam Update
June 2021: Core Update
June 201: Spam Update Part One and Part 2
November 2021: Spam Update
According to the Search Engine Land, Spam updates target specific guideline violations. Google did not say if this was links, content or other forms of spam, but rather just said it is spam-related in general.
However, every algorithm update will lead to fluctuations and headaches for SEOs around the world.
Several clients of mine, although we religiously follow Google webmaster guidelines, had either dropped their website domain authority (15-20 positions based on Ahrefs/Semrush) or lost the first position for important keywords.
The interesting bit is that I saw a client of mine increasing its organic traffic by 200% in just a week because their domain authority has increased by 20 points following the rolling out of the update.
I am aware that many people in the industry are sceptical about DA and it’s clear that it’s a metric mostly created by Moz and other SEO in the industry.
However, nobody can ignore the fact that getting links from authoritative sites will help your SEO.
The recommendation for every SEOs or website owner is to avoid buying links from external sites, especially low-quality or fast-delivering links. It’s easy to find on fiverr somebody promising 1000s of links in 5 days.
You might get an increase in traffic or domain authority in the short term but Google will sooner or rather catch up with you and it’s going to be painful when you will lose your traffic or receive a penalty.
At the same time, ensure that your content is original, high quality and free from any kind of plagiarism. It’s easy to find a writer that can promise you a 2000 word article at $20 but most likely that blog post will be copied from another source, and Google is not going to be happy about it.
Just remember that Google wants quality content, quality links and a quality website. Sorry for the repetition but I guess you get the concept :)
