J P Howden Auto Electrics

Why the Name Change?

Back in 2011, I took over what was then J P Howden Auto Electrics. At the time, the focus was on building a strong reputation and delivering quality work – not on changing the name.

Over a decade later, we’ve grown into something much more. While we built our reputation as auto electricians, the truth is we’ve always carried out servicing, repairs, MOTs, and diagnostics on all makes and models. The old name just didn’t reflect that.

That’s why we’ve rebranded from J P Howden Auto Electrics to Apex Auto Tech.

👉 New name – but nothing else has changed. Same ownership, same team, same standards.

✅ Servicing (including Block Exemption warranty-safe servicing)
✅ Repairs & MOT testing
✅ Advanced diagnostics with the latest equipment
✅ Free vehicle health checks with every job

At Apex Auto Tech, we don’t guess — we diagnose properly, with training, logic, and the right tools.

Thank you for supporting us through this next chapter – we look forward to continuing to look after you and your vehicles!

If you are checking your own tyres please make sure you get down and can see all of the tread, this one looks ok at a glance from the side of the car but the inside edge has worn through to the chords. The customer was unaware of the dangerous state his tyres were in and how close he was to a blow out or potentially 6 points on his license.

This vehicle was in for a fault with the engine management system which did not need to be put on a lift to diagnose but we give every car that comes in a safety check to make sure it is safe for the road, this one wasn't.

We also picked up that his timing belt is overdue and his rear brake pads were nearly metal to metal.

This is a clutch we replaced the other week on an A1. It was only 6 months old and was not faulty from driving style or quality of parts fitted, it was a genuine audi part.

The customer had it replaced elsewhere and we suspect they did not use the proper tool to pre load the self adjusting clutch before tightening it down. You can see how out of shape the fingers of the clutch are causing an uneven load on the friction plate. The flywheel was also beyond repair due to high spots from heat and play in the bearing.

New parts fitted the correct way and the customer back on the road.
