Summer Reading Challenge - Read to the Beat!
The Challenge has officially launched in Slough with over 200 children already signed up! Some came to our Symphony Collage launch activity and created amazing creations. Come along to join up in Slough libraries, visit the library 6 times, borrow and read 6 books and you can be presented with a Read to the Beat certificate and medal! 🥇

Leopold Coffee House and The Printers Devil Public House also known as The Brickmakers Arms. The Leopold Coffee House on Stoke Road was built in 1882 by Frederick Charsley. The coffee house operated as part of a classic Victorian movement to provide working class men a welcoming, alcohol-free space. The structure is made of red brick from local brick fields. By the 1970’s it transitioned into an art supply store.
The Brickmakers Arms on Stoke Road in Slough was a historical public house built around1871 to serve workers from the area’s booming brick making industry. It was later renamed The Printers Devil before closing permanently circa 2010. Photo credit Reg Harrison Collection Slough libraries.
