ASSIST is a Sheffield based charity supporting destitute people seeking asylum in our city. People refused asylum in the UK are not allowed to work, to register themselves as homeless or to be placed in local authority night shelters. Many become destitute, struggling daily for food, accommodation and clothing. We support up to 60 people each week with small welfare payments, subsidised bus passes

Following a wonderful afternoon at the Bishop of Sheffield's Garden Party last weekend, we're delighted to share this BRF Ministries Short Conversations podcast featuring our Patron, Bishop Pete Wilcox.

He discusses his new book, 'Come for Refuge: The Book of Ruth and Hope for Migrants'. Through a fresh reading of this well-known story of Ruth, he invites us to think about how we welcome people seeking safety and what stronger, more inclusive communities can look like.๐Ÿ’ฌ

A huge thank you to Bishop Pete and Cathy for their continued support of ASSIST. Also, to everyone who attended the Garden Party, stopped by to say hello, kindly donated, and showed their solidarity with people seeking sanctuary. It was a fantastic community event and a real celebration of welcome and compassion. ๐Ÿงก

This , we want to say a huge thank you to Howells Solicitors for kindly donating 14 good-quality mobile phones to our clients!๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿงก

For people seeking asylum, forced into destitution and living without access to government support. A mobile phone is literally a lifeline. It means staying in touch with legal representatives, GPs and other healthcare services, accessing vital information, connecting with community networks, and speaking to loved ones thousands of miles away. ๐Ÿ“ž๐ŸŒ

A text message. A WhatsApp call. A video chat with family you haven't seen in years. These moments are life-changing. During times of uncertainty and isolation, phones help people stay connected, informed, and part of a community.
