A long term 1-1 student (Y3) was struggling with developing sentence structure and ideas. After assessment, I decided to work on oracy, language and explore a good quality text. I created an instruction map and together we created actions to help us remember the words. It is so important to include oracy into our planning.
The National Curriculum writing objectives specify that pupils should compose and rehearse sentences orally before committing them to paper. If pupils cannot construct sentences that use grammatical elements they have been working on, for example, conjunctions, fronted adverbials, dialogue, how will they be able to use these in their writing? Basically, if they can't say their ideas how will they be able to write their ideas.
