š Supporting Future Graduates Through Real-World Experience š
We were delighted to be approached by The University of Sheffield to take part in their Work Insights programmeāan initiative designed to give students hands-on experience as part of their academic and professional development.
At Workfromhub and Nota Bene Consulting, weāre passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent, and this opportunity aligned perfectly with our values.
We recently welcomed students from Sociology with Social Policy, Data Science, and Geography & Planning to contribute to two exciting, real-world projects:
š§© Project 1: Autism-Friendly Spaces
One student focused on the importance of autism-friendly environments, researching the benefits and offering recommendations on how Workfromhub can embed inclusivity, accessibility, and neurodiverse support into future hub designs.
šŗļø Project 2: Story Mapping for Consulting
Another student explored the use of story map tools to help us present our consultancy work in a more visual, clear, and engaging wayāhelping clients better understand the journeys we design and support.
These projects have already begun to shape how we approach inclusive design and communication, and weāre incredibly proud of the studentsā insights, dedication, and creativity.
Huge thanks to the University of Sheffield for inviting us to be part of this brilliant initiativeāand to the students for their valuable contributions. Supporting emerging talent while learning from fresh perspectives? Thatās the future we believe in. š

š§ Mind the Gap: The Top 3 Barriers to Innovation in Transport (And How We Can Fix Them) š
After completing our recent International Rail Contract project, weāve been reflecting on the real-world challenges that come with driving innovation in the transport industry. As we've developed new concepts and collaborated across sectors, it's become clear where the biggest roadblocks lieāand what we can do about them.
Here are the top 3 barriers weāve identified through our own work and conversations across the industry:
1ļøā£ Outdated Infrastructure
Much of the UK's and global rail infrastructure was built for a different time. Retrofitting new technologies into ageing systems can be complex and expensive.
š§ Our approach: We focus on scalable, modular solutionsālike our Workfromhub designāthat can be deployed flexibly and don't rely on large-scale infrastructure overhauls.
2ļøā£ Siloed Thinking
Innovation slows when stakeholdersāoperators, policymakers, designersāarenāt speaking the same language or working towards a common goal.
š¤ Our solution: We embed collaboration from the start, working across public and private sectors to co-design solutions that work at ground level and strategic level alike.
3ļøā£ Fear of Change & Regulatory Hurdles
Innovative ideas often stall due to risk-averse cultures and regulations struggling to keep pace with emerging solutions.
š Our response: We advocate for test-and-learn models and create frameworks that make it easier to trial solutions safely, gathering evidence that supports long-term adoption.
š Thatās a Wrap on RIA Innovation Conference 2025! š
The exhibition has come to a close, and what an incredible experience it's been! We had the pleasure of engaging in amazing discussions with various professionals across the rail industry.
A huge thank you to everyone who visited our standāfrom familiar faces who dropped by to exchange ideas, to new friends intrigued by our solutions and shared their common challenges of finding private workspaces on the go. Your feedback has fuelled our motivation and confidence in our solutions.
Special thanks to the new contacts who are eager to continue conversations and explore opportunities together. We are thrilled about the possibilities ahead!
We'll soon share insights from the event, but for now....
a BIG THANK YOU to everyone for making our first time at the RIA Innovation Conference so memorable, welcoming, and informative.
Itās been amazing to be surrounded by so many entrepreneurs driven to solve challenges in the rail industry.
