⚠️Changes are being made to the Care About Cushings Scheme - effective immediately ⚠️

This will affect when (and if) you are eligible for a complimentary test, so please take a moment to read the following from Care About Cushings:

Our free* diagnostic PPID testing service will be available only in March and April – when laminitis risk is highest; and again in September and October – when diagnostic accuracy peaks.

Recent data has highlighted the importance of a clinical review and dose-checker test 4-6 weeks after starting treatment in order to ensure appropriate long-term care for Cushing’s patients. In 2026 we will therefore introduce a NEW free* dose-checker test at 4-6 weeks after treatment initiation for eligible patients.

All untreated horses with clinical signs of Cushing’s will remain eligible for one free* diagnostic ACTH test per year, which can be claimed during either of the Spring and Autumn disease awareness campaign periods and eligible treated horses will still receive one free* monitoring test per year.

*While the ACTH test is complimentary on the CAC scheme, you will still be charged for the blood sample and visit fees

Familiar sight? Make sure you're drying your horse's legs thoroughly if you are compelled to wash the mud off, and apply a good barrier cream to prevent mudfever. If you suspect mudfever, get in touch.

Have you heard about the update to FEI regulation? It will soon be necessary for vaccinations to be recorded in the FEI app.

The FEI website states "all equine influenza vaccines that have been given to the horse must be recorded in the horse’s passport and FEI HorseApp".

If you are competing at FEI, please ensure you have an account created on the app before your appointment (and don't forget your passport)!

Storm Eowyn is on its way, be sure to stow away anything loose around the yard / field like buckets, tarpaulins or tools.

Today, Carlos caught up with our lovely client Katy Jones to hear all about her incredible trip to Africa, where she took a suitcase stuffed full of bandages, wraps and supplies to be donated. She also donated her own time and stayed a while to volunteer helping the animals in Gambia 🙌
