Eyes on the prize, 9' #6 is the perfect weapon for chasing char. My favourite set up is a lightly dressed streamer and a small heavy nymph, both help get down to the bigger fish hugging the bottom of the pools, where the often take the nymph.

Sending back a July bar of silver on the tributary stream of Camp North Greenland 🇬🇱🎣

If you are looking for big fresh silver Char there is no better place than Camp North in July, the season runs from early July to end of August, all weeks are good weeks, there are no prime weeks as we don’t push it too early or too late.

However the early season is consistently one of the best times to get the bigger fish before the medium to smaller sized fish also inhabit the river and are quicker to take the fly.

I have chosen the 2nd week in the season to offer the best chance of big fish and good overall numbers in the system, many fresh fish are consistently coming in on every tide also.

A chunky mirror From Camp North in July. These Char over winter in the lakes and rivers, then shoot back out into the fjord during the spring floods for a few months of heavy feeding ready to make the journey back up river during the short but sweet summer season.

It doesn't take long before their bright silver colours transform ahead of spawning, so catching them this bright and gleaming silver is always a hallmark of tide fresh fish from the same day or day after.

Existing in cold harsh environments, Char grow slowly and are a long lived fish, but the genes of the Eqalugsuggsuit river fish are unique from anywhere else in Greenland, these guys put on weight fast with an average weight of around 4-6lb. There also good numbers of 6-10lb fish, while there is every opportunity of catching fish over double figures and well into the teens. It has also been known for fish to reach the 20lb+ mark, though this truly would be the holy grail!

My journey has fianlly begun, I’m heading to West Greenland to fish both Camp North & Erfalik for the first leg of Sea Run Arctic Char fishing this year 🇬🇱

For years I have wanted to make my own fly fishing movies and I’ve been incredibly greatful to be involved in others, but this year I am rigged and ready to go to make my first one.

Here is some test footage from my first drone flights, so I’m really excited to see what 3 weeks and 3 rivers will produce at the end of the season… plenty of fish that’s for sure!
