💫GARAGE DECLUTTERING
That was me last week. My lovely client did great..be warned .. It can get overwhelming!
🌟The garage had a mix of old DIY stuff, Christmas and Easter decorations, shoes and an extensive collection of mugs, yes seasonal mugs and collectible mugs which my client absolutely loves😊
The weather was in our side, everything was taken out of the garage and we went through everything and divided by categories:
Seasonal decorations
Shoes
China and ceramics( which the client had acquired through her travels around the world)
Summer outdoor accessories
So .. Part 1 -THE DECLUTTER part was done!💫
Next session we’ll be concentrating on organising items in the best way possible.
My Top TIPs:
🌟Declutter first THEN organise. Never the other way round as you’ll be going in circles! Garage/shed and lloft decluttering is possibly the most overwhelming… even for Professional Organisers, trust me!
I have yet to see a garage which is kept bare, but I am still hoping!
🌟Be as ruthless as possible, most of the stuff has probably been forgotten or placed there as an interim space. Assess usage and condition.. is it really worth keeping?
🌟Think shelves: ideal to place storage boxes and free up floor area. Cluttered floors will attract more clutter, so avoid using the floor as a dumping ground.
🌟Think storage: boxes with lids( we are going to use metal trunks) or anything which can stay firmly shut . It will prevent bugs, dust dump from damaging items.
🌟Think hooks: is there anything which could be hanged saving space?
🌟Think zones: zoning is essential i even more so in a garage! Think seasonal/outdoors/tools/ anything which resonates with your lifestyle really which is going to simplify getting a certain items.
🌟Think Labels: Either shelves or boxes( or both!) you will know where to go whenever you need something.
🌟Extra tip- after decluttering /organising show the newly organised space to ALL your family members so they know where things are and where to look for certain items.
🌟Even better if you make garage decluttering a family activity
…OR you can always ask them to ask your permission to get into the garage to keep it pristine🤣💫
