I wouldn't actually recommend doing this using Apache (.htaccess) alone, but this solution employs some useful (and overlooked) fundamentals of mod_rewrite that can be used in other areas. (Aside: Better to do this particular task in your application logic and white-list the target URLs, as scripts like this are often abused by scammers.)
