It mainly acts as a barrier between you and external factors such as exposure to the sun, seasonal changes and micro-organisms. However, there are many internal factors too which affect our skin. From the amount of exercise you do, to genetics, to hormones and the number of oil glands you have – everyone will have a differential skin type. If your skin becomes too dry or exposed to too many chemicals(colours, cosmetics' etc), it no longer properly fulfils its role as a protective barrier.
