🚨 Callout - 28/6/26

On Sunday morning, members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were called upon to support Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) as crews responded to the ongoing moorland fires which started at Tintwistle and were approaching our team's area.

Our volunteers guided on foot the GMFRS Wildfire Unit vehicles from Chew Reservoir safely across challenging moorland terrain of Featherbed Moss towards Laddow Rocks, enabling them to access the advancing fire quickly and efficiently. πŸš’πŸ”₯

Working together in demanding conditions, this multi-agency response helped ensure specialist crews could reach the fire ground safely and continue their efforts to protect our countryside and local communities. 🀝

πŸ•’ Duration: 5 hours
πŸ‘₯ Team members involved: 6

Take extra care if you're on the moors. Please avoid areas affected by the fire, follow any advice from the emergency services, and if you notice signs of fire, report it as soon as possible.

Last weekend saw the start of the Montane Summer Spine race events and once again the Team were handing out water and our now famous boiled potatoes at our Brun Clough aid station.

Well done to our team members who were also running in some of the events: Gary in the Sprint South race, Si in the MRT Challenge South race, and trainee team member Colin in the MRT Challenge North race.

Over this coming week, other runners will be continuing on their quests to complete the full Spine race of 268 miles from Edale to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. We wish them the best of luck with the rest of their challenge.

Whilst some Team members were helping out at the aid station, others were in the nearby valley of Castleshaw for the annual social weekend bringing team members and their families together.

A big shout out goes to Best Food Logistics for providing the renowned boiled potatoes at the aid station and food at the team social.

πŸ“£ πŸ†˜ We need your help!

After sixteen years of service we are looking to replace our beloved Land Rovers. They play a critical role in our rescues taking Team members and key equipment as close to casualties as possible on terrain other vehicles cannot reach or access.

However, before this can happen we need to raise funds to replace both vehicles, approximately Β£80,000 each. This is in addition to the annual running costs of the team roughly Β£45,000, which is no easy task.

We have so far raised Β£13,500 towards our total target of Β£160,000 but we simply can’t do this on our own and need the help of our supporters and the communities we serve to come to our rescue!

How can you help?
