Table after Semi Finals

The top four rest on their laurels and whilst Amanda Markin & Tony Hurst are assured of the top 2 prizes, Billericay Town & Grace Lowe will be donning their green and red scarves for this evenings final in the hope of top prizes.

Nobody correctly predicting both of this years finalists, but 73 entrants guessing one of the two champions elect.

The prize for the worst predictor and the wooden spoon, ends up in its rightful kitchen of Mini Cooper, who after sitting at the foot of the table for most of the competition finally gets pipped at the post by Jake Parkin.

Amanda Markin becomes our Serena Williams, acing her way through the tournament with a never seen before lead from day 1 through to the final, to be crowned Queen and lift the trophy. Tony Hurst assures himself second spot and relied on a German victory to have any chance of catching Amanda falling at the penultimate fence.

A few entrants around the prize positions still have a hope for the crumbs from the top table and the final table will be updated after the final....

They think its all over.................................................

End of Round 1

Hungary 3 Portugal 3
Iceland 2 Austria 1
Italy 0 Rep of Ireland 1
Sweden 0 Belgium 1

Some unexpected scores to bring round 1 to a close. Iceland scoring in the dying seconds to set up a last 16 tie with England & Rep of Ireland scoring in the dying minutes to ensure all home / adopted nations (apart from Scotland) qualify for R2.

The end of R1 table was posted earlier (with a few names missing - my bad) with a repeat of the poor scoring of the previous night with approx 40% of entrants failing to register a point whilst Jules Coales, Mark Rhodes, Jon Richmond, Kieran Hilson, Snowy, Bill McGuirk all top score hitting a boundry and each scoring 4 points for the day.

With the top & bottom remaining pretty familiar, we give the 'STD' award to Amanda Markin Verity and give her a big clap. An amazing 20 out of 36 correct results in the first round with 50% of these correct scores to top the table at the end of R1 with 40 points.

Spare a thought for Mini-Cooper, our only entrant who gets the 'Derby County' award as the only entrant not to reach double figures.

With all the teams now decided for the round of 16, see below up to date table with these points now added. This now becomes a manual operation for the scoring system so is prone to the odd error. If you notice any errors, please message me & I will correct this if required. HOWEVER before you do message me, a number of half wits have been deducted points where they have predicted the same team more than once through to the next round - no-one more so than Tim Bousfield, who predicted 3 teams through twice into the 2nd round & Immy Whiting & Bradley Dove, who predicted Ukraine through 3 times. Some errors were noticed prior to the start of the tournament and were corrected, for those whose weren't so lucky - tough t***y!

With his meter running, John Hilson is our London cab driver on a mission, starting the morning in 54th & driving 48 houses along to 6th position charging a monkey and putting everyone else in a right two and eight. Tony Hurst brings back a bit of dignity to the Carmel workforce and now appears to be the main challenger to our 'Coco Chanel', still smelling of roses at the top - AMV!

Our predictors of the day for the last 16 goes to Amanda Markin, Tony Hurst, Billericay Town, John Hilson, Derby Dave, ACDCFC, Malc Harrison, Julia Fox & Lisa Mucznik (who may be starting to sharpen her knife for co-worker Darren Stapleton for the Cornmill Cock-Chop) who all predict 14 of the 16 teams correctly through to R2.

No more updates until the end of R2 - let battle commence.........
