Now I am actually the ‘free roaming’ physio I thought I would go out and do some roaming 😎 Pain around the outside of the hip is really common in women and 1 in 4 over 50 will develop a condition called gluteal tendinopathy. Firstly it usually comes on very gradually so as soon as you feel it, adapt your exercise or habits to offload the tendon. High impact exercise like running puts an enormous load through the large tendon and during peri menopause the drop in oestrogen means the tendons are less healthy and less able to recover. I’m not saying stop running but it may be you have to reduce your training load and factor in more recovery time or replace some of your run sessions with S&C. Remember though that the tendon is saying it’s not happy so suddenly starting strength training without understanding what you are doing can load it even more. Comment HIP if you are experiencing lateral hip pain and I can send over a short info doc with some nice exercise and tips for managing it
