🌍 Earth Overshoot Day 🌍

Today, we commemorate Earth Overshoot Day, the day on which more raw materials have been used worldwide than the Earth can produce in one year. This means that today we have already used up all the natural resources of 2025. In 2024, this day fell on August 1.

At Rotom, we stand for sustainable growth and strive to create a sustainable world for future generations. We do this by giving the Earth a helping hand:

🔹 Use and generation of green energy: This year, our goal is to use at least 50% renewable energy, which we do by generating energy via solar panels at our locations.
🔹 Use of circular load carriers, either through recycled material, pooling, rental or used load carriers.
🔹 In 2025, all Rotom production locations will be PeFC certified; our wood comes from sustainably managed forests and trees.
🔹 We are working to reduce greenhouse gases with the goal of achieving a 30% reduction by 2030.

Together, we strive for a more sustainable future and try to ensure that Earth Overshoot Day does not come even earlier next year. 🌍♻️

♻️ The 6 R’s of Rotom in practice: Responsible

At Rotom, we strive to create a sustainable and better world, and we use the Rotom 6R concept: Reuse, Recycle, Responsible, Reimagine, Repair and Reduce. This month, we highlight the 'R' of Responsible.

This year, we launched the Rotom Safety Program with the mission to become the safest company in our industry. The pillars below form the basis:

1. Health ⛑️
We proactively commit to the overall physical, mental and social well-being of our employees in the workplace and monitor factors that can negatively affect health.

2. Safety 🦺
We protect our staff from danger, risk or injury and ensure that everyone can perform their tasks without harm.

3. Environment 🌍
Environmental responsibility includes minimising waste, managing waste, conserving resources, and complying with environmental laws and regulations to protect ecosystems and promote sustainability.

♻️ The 6 R’s of Rotom in practice – focus on: Recycle

At Rotom, we follow the 6R model as a guide for our sustainable strategy: Reduce, Reuse, Repair,Reimagine, Recycle and Responsbie. This month, we’re focusing on Recycle, an essential part of our circular approach.

🔎 Did you know that approximately 70% of wooden pallets in Europe are recycled or reused? At Rotom, we give materials a second life:

🔹 Wood waste from pallet production and non-repairable pallets is processed into bedding for animal enclosures.
🔹 At our location in Hoek van Holland, we convert wood waste into bio-energy for heating the building.
🔹 All residual materials are separated and responsibly recycled through certified processing partners.

With these initiatives, we reduce waste streams, save natural resources, and lower our ecological impact.

✨ Meet our new interim CEO: Frank Weermeijer ✨

At the beginning of this year, we said goodbye to Arjan Kuiper as CEO of Rotom after 31 years. In the meantime, Frank Weermeijer has joined as interim CEO, and in a short time, he has already visited all our European locations to meet colleagues and get to know the organisation.

Frank reflects positively on his first period at Rotom:
