Set up in 2005 by roots musician Kevin Buxton, KONTRA ROOTS PROMOTIONS is an informal organisation dedicated to promoting quality acoustic roots music in the Northamptonshire area and beyond. It founded and organises the legendary KONTRA ROOTS CLUB, as well as THE FINEDON SESSIONS concert venue. ROOFTOP ACOUSTIC rolls around this Wednesday at Rooftop Arts Centre, Corby, with a more than usually fantastic bill featuring dynamic and highly entertaining all purpose acoustic band ACOUSTIC-US, plus absolutely stunning new super-duo WARD & PARKER, plus excellent rootsy Cambridgeshire duo RUBY MUSE. KONTRA ROOTS CLUB returns this Friday the 25th, featuring two acts new to the club: JOHNS & NOVAK, a brilliant and highly accomplished new West Country duo who reinterpret American music on guitar and mandolin to remarkable effect, plus CRAYON ANGELS, a delightful trio who play quintessential English songs, a pop/folk crossover chock full of melodies. Also on this top notch bill we’re chuffed to welcome back one of Northants' most distinguished singer-songwriters, KENNETH J NASH, renowned for his haunting and quite magical songs. It’s the KONTRA ROOTS CLUB Christmas Special this coming Friday 14th when we’ll be celebrating a terrific twelve months at Kontra with a fantastic bill featuring probably our most successful local act, the superbly mellow and melodic HAZEYJANE, who will be performing with their full four piece lineup. Also on the bill are probably the club’s most applauded newcomers of the year, the high energy trio from Shrewsbury, TWO BLANK PAGES, who raised the roof back in March with an original and blistering set of yee-ha folk/country (plus wonderful harmonies). And we will of course be winding up the show as always with Earls Barton’s own barnstorming six piece folk-rock band, CORDWAINERS, playing us into Christmas with style and a few seasonal chestnuts!
