***National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine makes triumphant return to Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall***
Manchester, UK – The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, led by conductor Volodymyr Sirenko, will be returning to the UK following their autumn 2023 tour during which they were recognised at a special performance in Westminster for their bravery and cultural importance during the conflict in Ukraine. Their concert at The Bridgewater Hall as part of the International Concert Series will celebrate our nations’ bond with works from both Ukraine and England, including Maxim Berezovsky’s Symphony in C, the first Ukrainian symphony, and Bradford-born Frederick Delius’s ‘On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring’. The programme will also include Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5, ‘Emperor’, featuring piano soloist Maria Pukhlianko, and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, both works that are thought to have been thematically influenced by Beethoven’s experience of living through the Napoleonic Wars, a relevant choice for the Kyiv-based orchestra.
Widely regarded as one of the best orchestras in Eastern Europe, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine was formed in 1918 by the Council of Ministers of Ukraine. Despite the violence, they remain based in Kyiv. Alongside the money raised from their concerts, the orchestra will be accepting donations through a Just Giving campaign. All funds will go directly towards supporting the orchestra and their families. The link to donate can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/nsouukirelandtour2026
The Bridgewater Hall’s International Concert Series is the venue’s flagship series that brings the most prestigious classical musicians from across the globe to Manchester. Now in its 29th year, the ICS continues to present international orchestras, celebrated recitalists, and some of the world’s most renowned choirs.
